I’m soon approaching the Bombay HC praying for a writ to all municipal corporations, zilla parishads, & panchayats:

(A) to digitize ALL birth records from 1960 (creation of Maharashtra).

(B) to give 12 months for corrections/fixing omissions after completing the process

While this process goes on, I’ll be praying to the HC to impose a blanket stay on the implementation of NRC in the state & that this process be court-monitored.

It’s only fair that people be given a chance to get their records if they’ve lost them/they don’t have them.

Article 21 states that “No person shall be deprived of his life or personal liberty except according to a procedure established by law.”

You can’t impose an NRC & detain people without first allowing them complete access to their records & documents. That’s their right.

While we fight on the streets & in other forums, we also need to ensure that every legal option is utilized to stop this arbitrary nationwide NRC process.

We need to do this across states.

PS: I stand VEHEMENTLY OPPOSED to the NRC as is clear.

But tomorrow if they force it thru, I’m not going to give “thoughts & prayers” or rely blindly on politicians to “not implement NRC in states” which they can’t legally do.

Every attempt to throw a spanner must be used.
