Having been a CM Fellow and a part of the #Maharashtra government for the last 2.5 years, I know the kind of change that my colleagues and I have managed to bring into the system. Happy to discuss, debate and explain some of the work we did. A thread.. (1/8)
50 Fellows are selected each year through a 3 layer competitive and transparent process. Selection is not as per political affiliation or ideology. Most of us took +60% pay-cuts to join the government in a hope to create impact. Fellows have contributed tremendously.Examples: 2/8

I know 'political experts' with brains the size of an ostrich's brain will find this difficult to comprehend:
BJP with its pre-poll ally Shiv Sena won #Maharashtra Assembly election.
Shiv Sena was a distant second to BJP.
NCP came in third.
Congress trailed the race as fourth.
Shiv Sena would not have won as many seats as it did without BJP votes being transferred to its candidates.
Just because Shiv Sena has walked out on its pre-poll ally and aligned with NCP and Congress does not make it any better.
Remember how the movie 'Arth' ends?
If you opposed Shiv Sena earlier because it wore saffron knickers and now support it because it has donned green knickers, your ideology is a lump of plasticine -- to be moulded any which way.
Elections are a game of thrones. BJP made a bid for power with Ajit Pawar and failed.

Perhaps the best example of #AmalgamationArchitecture and the cultural inclusiveness of #Hyderabad under the Nizam is #OsmaniaUniversity Arts College founded in 1918. It's the 1st Indian university to have Urdu (a modern language) as medium of instruction (as opposed to Persian).
Under the last Nizam, Osman Ali Pasha, #Hyderabad was thriving as a center of learning, innovation and technological advancement, free from the dark shadow of colonialism that gripped most of the Subcontinent. Hyderabad was quite insulated from India...
...and developed its own culture, architectural styles, cuisine, and most importantly, language. People from India were referred to as Hindustani and so was their language. The language of Hyderabad was Dakhani (of Deccan), which is very distinct from Hindi or Urdu...

Elections come, elections go, parties remain. I have memories of elections and electoral politics since 1972. That's nearly half-a-century. Elections in #India are not a post-Google phenomenon, nor does any 'analyst' have any startlingly new insight to offer. #India 1/n
No political party contests elections to lose them. Parties exist to win as much political space as possible. Elections are neither a morality play nor a passion play. Morals and ethics come into play when power is exercised -- as an end in itself or as means to an end. 2/n
The outcome of Assembly elections is determined by a host of factors. These are entirely different from factors that determine the outcome of Lok Sabha elections. To conflate or compare the two is pointless. Some similarities may exist but these are ephemeral and debatable. 3/n

The #RightToEducationAct makes it the govt’s responsibility to ensure the primary education of each child,irrespective of caste,class &religion. But in #Maharashtra,children from marginalized communities face increasing hurdles in accessing #education. #MaharashtraElections2019👇
In #Amravati,@Dev_Fadnavis's govt not only refused to recognise a school started by a Phanse Pardhi teacher for kids from his long-stigmatised & impoverished community, but demolished it to build a "prosperity highway", leaving them anxious & uncertain.
Meanwhile, as #schools are being demolished to build prosperity highways,elsewhere in #Maharashtra, 8y.o. Yash Mahalunge from an isolated hamlet in Shahapur taluka has to risk his life everyday to attend school after the only bridge here collapsed in 2005.

#DidYouKnow Though #AzimPremji was born in #Mumbai, the business journey of his family began in the small town of Amalner in Jalgaon district where his father, Muhammad Hashim Premji had a unit manufacturing vegetable oil and a laundry soap he set up in 1945. #ObserverDiaries
It is said that Jinnah had requested Hashim Premji to migrate to #Pakistan after Partition but he chose to remain in India. Only that vegetable oil unit remains as a token presence of the family's group at Amalner though it has expanded phenomenally in the country and overseas.
Driving through rural northern Maharashtra in Jalgaon district gives one a great idea of how brilliant this monsoon has been for this part of the state. All water bodies are full to the brim, like the Bahula river in the photos, which used to be as dry as a bone! #ObserverDiaries

#Thread Family Doctors (Primary Care) Vs Speciality Care in #India
A few weeks ago, in response to a different thread ( ) there was a comment from @spinesurgeon that we need family physicians. (1/31)
Another comment in that thread by @VaradhKrish referred to the issue of patients going directly to specialists, bypassing primary care doctors. (2/31)
The problem of patients going to specialists directly, rather than to primary care/family doctors first and then being referred by them to specialists is one that requires a more in-depth analysis. (3/31)

@ani7709 Nagpur - BJP

Although there may not be lead as much as last time for BJP, BJP is in comfortable position to win this seat.

Nana Patole uplifted spirit of INC cadre as he fought against heavyweight minister Gadkari. Gadkari couldn't move out of Nagpur for a while in this phase.
@ani7709 Bhandara-Gondiya - BJP

A neck to neck contest. BJP put a good fight in by poll held previously. Due to Nana Patole moved to Nagpur to contest, BJP somewhat got a relief to make this seat workout.
Both BJP & NCP put fresh candidates. It is going to be a cadre vs cadre fight.
@ani7709 Gadchiroli-Chimur - BJP
No any other CM has visited Gadchiroli as much as Devendra Fadnavis did. Development work has put edge to BJP in this seat.

Putting post poll prediction done by me & @ani7709 about #Maharashtra.
We have taken several opinions, understood situation from each loksabha seat & findings of some analysts.

Also I will be putting personal prediction of other states in same thread.
@ani7709 Overall scenario of #Maharashtra:
BJP looked very strong on every seat they fought.

Congress still looked in bad shape except Vidharbha, Marathwada

Shivsena will lose some seats especially to NCP.

NCP looking much stronger than 2014, putting full force & resources this time.
@ani7709 ShivSena faced anti incumbency in Marathwada, Vidharbha region. Several seats are toss ups & good chance for NCP especially to gain those.

Today marked five years since #NarendraDabholkar was assassinated while on his morning walk in Pune (thread)

That act robbed Maharashtra and the rest of the country of one of the finest rationalist minds and dogged anti-superstition activists.

#NarendraDabholkar was 67 yrs old
For 18 long years, #NarendraDabholkar and his compatriots had campaigned for an anti-superstition anti-black magic law.
They were convinced that poorest/weakest people were being exploited under the rubric of religious practices though these had little or no religious sanction
On Aug 26, 2013, less than a week after #NarendraDabholkar was shot dead, the Maharashtra govt promulgated an ordinance. And formalised the law in December that year.

Since then, the law has seen amendments which diluted it, the list of banned activities has been reducing.
