I havent been able to find the poem for this. 10 years ago in the mental hospital at a cafeteria table a stranger told me she used to care for horses. Once, one dangerously held her arm in its maw. "It could have taken the whole thing off, but it didnt. It just held me there." /1
I never saw her again. I think about her all the time. Specifically: her face, wracked by gentleness. “It just held me there.” I’m thinking of it today, during the holiday season, when so many of us are often held in the maw of something dangerous: isolation, desperation, ache /2
Wherever u are I hope whatever aches you "just holds you there." That you feel that massive muscular beast decide youre meant to be here in all your blues. You are. May you be given a touch of relief, a torch of belief, that in the midst of what could vanish you, you are held. /3
