It’s exhausting debating people who are more obsessed with motives than results. Competition lowers costs and improves care. A lack of it will inevitably sacrifice one or both.

Also, goal of single payer will inevitably be to reduce costs, not save lives.
This is the same argument people generally have about free markets. They pretend like self-interest somehow taints the incredible results.

Yes you managed to almost eliminate extreme poverty, but it doesn’t count because you only did it to try to make money for yourself.
The people employed and feeding their families because an entrepreneur started a successful business don’t care that he did it to make money for himself. It’s not better to give them food stamps with good motives than a job motivated by self-interest. It’s results that count.
As the people of Venezuela can tell you, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. They were also promised an efficient gov’t that was motivated by helping the poor. Now almost everyone in the country is starving, except the bureaucrats who made the promises.
