Gov. Ralph Northam's been busy since those blackface photos:
–established commission to comb state law for racist language & Jim Crow provisions
–expanded access to state contracts for women+minority-owned firms
–set up commission to reform the way black history is taught 1/
Proposed:
–including free community college to low & moderate-income students
–expanding prekindergarten for at-risk & disadvantaged children
–boosting funds to reduce maternal mortality among women of color

Imagine if other white southern governors responded to questions about race the way Ralph Notham has.

For ex, incoming MS Gov. @tatereeves, who's faced his own criticism for his fraternity's blackface practices, has the chance to look at some of these sorts of reforms, too. 3/
But too often, white politicians respond to questions about racism by reflexively dismissing it as "race-baiting" & talking about how they are "colorblind" & want to do what's best for "everyone," instead of listening to & HEARING black leaders, & tackling systemic racism. 4/
