Did you see this graph by Kleven et al. (2018) showing that earnings of men and women in Denmark diverge sharply right after the arrival of the first child?

Kleven et al. (2019) now studied the same for Sweden, Germany, Austria, the UK, and the US.

And guess what? (1/6)
The divergence is even sharper in these countries.

Below you see Denmark and Sweden.

The short-run earnings penalty is about twice as large in Sweden as it is in Denmark. (2/6)
The UK and US feature less dramatic short-run earning penalties, but larger long-run penalties: 44% in the UK and 31% in the US. (3/6)

1/ I asked @LAPDHQ about what they would do about the fact that Sgt. John Valdez was an active member of a hate-filled Facebook group.

Now, LAPD’s responded with how its classified his behavior:

Someone threatened to waste me just like guys wasted Mr. Chinedu Oranye Feb. 2018 cuz of the entertainment shit indictment in my thread. The person definitely know me as Mr. Chinedu Oranye was my favorite guy back in UNN. He was UNN security officer before his gruesome murder.

Been reading a bunch of Annual Reports last few days. Creating this thread to capture and share interesting tidbits from the ones I am reading this season. Will be updated on an ongoing basis next few weeks.

2. Few bluechips have reported their #EconomicValueAdded (EVA), a good measure of shareholder value creation. HUL AR does a great job of explaining details. EVA as % avg capital employed over a period of time can be a good leading indicator. Pidilite also shares EVA details
3. Chairman's letter+MD&A section of top 2/3 key players provide great overview of economy and sector dynamics.
Few suggested section reads are HUL, Kotak, PEL, Sterlite Tech, Everest Ind+Visaka, Godrej Prop, OCCL, Hikal, Aavas, RBL, L&T Infotech, Zydus Wellness.

🚨 New working paper on financial aid for college! 🚨

A quick summary in this #thread...
This paper looks at two-year college students who have the greatest financial need, and finds that a grant of around $1,000 increased rates of degree completion over the following three years by about 1-2 percentage points, from a baseline of 19% completion.
The research design is a regression discontinuity using a cutoff in the date of filing the FAFSA. Wisconsin allocates aid first-come first-served among financially eligible applicants. More details on this and supplementary strategies, in the paper.

Here is my presentation at the opening session of the #NordicEVS, I discuss what has driven changes in CO₂ emissions in the last decades & where we need to go into the future.

1. Where have we been in the last century? We have been busy burning coal, oil, gas, and cutting down forests. Emissions have grown except for short economic downturns or spikes in deforestation (fires).
2. Where do we want to go? For 1.5°C we need CO₂ emissions to go down much faster than we went up. CO₂ emissions down 50% in a decade, zero by 2050, negative thereafter. We have to start remove CO₂ now, to reach the necessary scale at the end of the century.
