this piece is from New Yorker, so why doesn’t The New Yorker regularly refer to Trump as a pathological liar and a racist?

trust me, there is the "language" at hand to accurately describe Trump.

DC journalists just don't want to use it.

in many cases, DC journalists are *forbidden* from using it....NYT won't let newsroom call Trump a "liar"

I just think it’s easier for the press to say, ‘we just can’t describe what’s happening under Trump’

Vs, yknow, going ahead and and describing what’s happening under Trump

creeping authoritarianism always depends on a press corps that pretends it’s not quite sure what’s unfolding
