Even the conservatives who know climate science is real prefer to focus on resenting environmentalists nymag.com/intelligencer/…
A little backstory. Kevin Williamson wrote the kind of column you see a lot, using resentment of environmentalists to shove aside the bigger problem of the GOP's insane pseudoscientific extremism on the issue: nationalreview.com/2019/12/climat…
I tweeted about this column as emblematic of how even conservatives who aren't active climate science skeptics still prefer to focus on their common enemy:
Kevin Williamson wrote a response that's simply incredible. He seemed to have misread my point as the complete opposite of what I actually wrote:
My tweet described Williamson as a conservative who doesn't want to actively defend the GOP's denialist stance.

Williamson's response: How dare you! I'm a conservative who doesn't want to actively defend the GOP's denialist stance!
Williamson literally responds to my description of him by repeating that exact same description of himself. And then accuses me of not knowing how to read!
Anyway, I wrote a longer piece explaining why I think his peculiar form of deflection poses a larger problem: nymag.com/intelligencer/…
