Shitty teen last night walks by Tallulah dressed in all her Belle finery in the crazy Disneyland NYE crowd and says, in shitty teen snark, “nice Elsa costume.”
I saw it. I promise he was neither mistaken nor talking to someone else. He was deliberately fucking with a kid because he could and because the crowds meant we couldn’t stop and discuss it with him.
T was LIVID, but she kept walking.
When we got to where we could talk about it, I told her I saw it, she was not wrong and I’m sorry that happened to her.
She was silent for a moment and then looked up at me, “I know what I should have said.”
“What?” I asked.
Then, sharp like a fucking razor, she says, “You too.”
“What?” I asked.

So this is how my daughter learned “L'esprit de l'escalier.” Also? Girl has a wit like a whip and NO MERCY. She’s gonna do fine.
(She’s fine; nobody worry. As I type this we are at the airport gate, she’s wearing a Jedi helmet and singing I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU. And she just saw some YouTuber she likes in the sundries store so she’s thrilled.)
