So I have a huge stack of Soviet toilet paper in my office. Why, say you. Well, when I was recently vacationing in Sakhalin, they opened a supply base closed for 30 years. Among various Soviet paraphernalia like gas masks and what not, they were selling toilet paper.
I thought: hell, why not. I'll buy some for my office to use as tissue paper. It turns out though that the toilet paper is water resistant. Literally, it won't soak up any water.
Can anyone please explain why the Soviets needed water-resistant toilet paper? No? Neither can I. I can tell you though that this is one reason the Soviet Union lost the Cold War.
Postscriptum: I've discovered that the toilet paper is good for writing notes. That's what I'll be using it for. Come to think of it, we never used this type of toilet paper in my Soviet home (you couldn't buy such luxuries). I distinctly recall using newspapers.
