It's astonishing to me that these 23 GOP House Republicans are slated to vote against impeachment on Wednesday, despite the fact that they are leaving the House after the next election.

Hard to believe that most of these Reps aren't leaving because of Trump's strong-arm tactics.

McConnell's actions to proceed without agreement on taking evidence are a precursor to a violation of the Senate's Constitutional role.

I will explain.
Legal proceedings, like impeachment and removal, are necessary to decide disputes about facts.

There are only a couple legal proceedings where you don't have consideration of factual evidence. One at the outset of a legal process and the other after the conclusion of one.
(And forgive me if there's oversimplification in here. These are analogies.)

McConnell now speaking along these lines. "History matters, and precedent matters."

(The precedent that's useful to him here is, all previous presidential impeachments have been based on violating federal laws.)

McConnell is not particularly interested in the precedent of past presidents not pressuring foreign governments to investigate their potential reelection rivals.
McConnell now giving the obvious response to Pelosi's suggestion that she'll withhold transmitting the impeachment articles for now — claiming it's an admission that their case is weak.

1. I’m seeing a number of people (liberal leavers, Remainer ‘compromisers’) going through he cogs of getting to EEA/EFTA minus CU as being an acceptable solution for Britain post-Brexit.
2. The thought process seems to be that it throws a bone to Leavers with an ‘independent trade policy’, whilst maintaining (in the case of Remainer ‘compromisers’) something that they want, normally freedom of movement.
3. I’m genuinely confused why people are still pushing this position.
