A "reboot" is when you restart a movie or television series starting with one or more original storylines, but with new actors, and then take the story forward into new narrative or thematic territory. It's not the same as a remake, or a sequel, or a prequel.
Selfie-line selfies are selfies, though, even if a staffer is holding the camera.
(I am intrigued by the blue-checkmark quibble, which I haven't heard before, and haven't yet quite decided whether I'll be adding it to the list of things I'm a horse's ass about. Leaning against, but haven't quite decided.)
Lots of interesting responses to this tweet. Quickly: There are plenty of other categories to consider, including retellings, spinoffs (and their cousins, the back-door pilot), etc.
Also, "reboot" as a verb is broader than "reboot" as a noun—one may reboot a franchise by making a long-delayed sequel to a movie or jumpstarting a series that went off the air ages ago.
So the recent Will and Grace, Roseanne, and Mad About Yous (etc etc etc) are continuations of the original series, rather than reboots, but I wouldn't wince too hard if you were to say that NBC rebooted the W&G franchise by getting the band back together.
I mean, *I* wouldn't say that. But you could. Barely.
