(Very) unpopular opinion: Elizabeth II has been a great queen. She commands respect. But as a mother and grandmother?!

Charles: treated Diana despicably; Diana was shut out by the family and left to suffer alone.

Andrew: enough said.

Edward: vanished from public life
Anne: OK, no problem there

Harry: is it really beyond the bounds of possibility that she could've stepped in to stop the staggeringly, monstrously racist media coverage of his wife?
My broad conclusion is: this family is fantastically dysfunctional because in this day and age, it's impossible to live their lives in front of the cameras and maintain the 'stiff upper lip' in the manner of the past.

But she has to take some of the responsibility, surely?
From memory, at Diana's funeral, nobody was even allowed to hold Harry's hand. He wasn't even 13 yet. That's bordering upon child abuse.

And the way she handled that whole week was a tone-deaf disaster too.
She's a great survivor; she's seen it all. What it must be like having to make chit chat with Johnson when she started her reign doing so with Churchill... the mind boggles.

But good grief: convention and tradition is not more important than protecting your loved ones, Ma'am.
