Here's a small thread about why the map of the 2015 legislative elections in Portugal looks remarkably similar to the map of Portugal in 1160.
Northern Portugal has traditionally been more right-wing, and Southern Portugal has been more left wing. The Alentejo region south of Lisbon has been a stronghold of the Communist party.
The Reconquista (the victory of Christian kingdoms over Muslim caliphates) took place much later in Southern Portugal than in the North: in the South, land was retaken with the help of a number of military orders, such as the Knights Templar.

Here at the Monash's Clayton campus today for the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in the Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences symposium - going to hear about all the research going on in this area
In the mid-1980s at Monash University, there weren't any women in the politics department. @bestqualitycrab was told, "We don't encourage women to study Honours when all you'll do is leave to get your wombs working". She enrolled immediately.
Thomas Osborne says there are four types of academics: experts, legislators, interpreters, and mediators. @bestqualitycrab notes these and adds 'agitator', someone who wants to make a difference in the world. She sees herself as an academic agitator.

In case there's anyone who is still somehow unaware, back in January Johann Hari released his new book about depression and how it 'really' works and can be cured, accompanied with a gargantuan publicity campaign and many endorsements.
