All 3 studies cited in this piece found positive effects of school choice in Sweden.

Headline: "Betsy DeVos' school choice ideas are a reality in Sweden, where student performance has suffered"

Literally the opposite of the data.
First study cited:

"The share of independent school students improves average short and long run outcomes"
Second study cited:

"Competition is shown to have statistically significant positive effects on student performance"
Third study cited:

"School choice had very small but positive effects"

Yet the journalist only said this about the study:

"Research suggests that the presence of free schools has no positive long-term effects for students" 🤔
Another Sweden school choice study (left out by the journalist):

"Our findings support the hypothesis that school results in public schools improve due to competition"
The "evidence" against school choice in Sweden?

The journalist got a quote from an education professor saying something "went wrong in Sweden"

And that Michigan charters are "a disaster"
Liz Willen is the editor-in-chief at @hechingerreport.

On a panel today, she defended Hechinger saying that it is not biased and that it's just in the business of "truth seeking"

It sure doesn't seem like it.

There are 4 studies finding positive effects of school choice in Sweden.

The journalist even cited 3 of them.
Zero negative studies were cited.

@L_Willen, is this headline fair?🤔
