@PhillyInquirer just published a column stating there has been "drastic cuts to funding over the last few decades" in public education.

This statement is verifiably false.

Real education funding clearly INCREASED over the last few decades.

A correction is needed.
Here is the verifiably false statement.

@PhillyInquirer reporter @juliana_f_reyes should correct this error.
Here is a link to the piece with the obvious error

Here are the federal data on education spending over time

Thank you to @mleblond1 for 1st pointing out this error by @PhillyInquirer.
The statement now says "which have seen such drastic cuts to funding over the last decade."

That statement is still not true in Pennsylvania.

The data show inflation-adjusted per pupil spending *increased* over the last decade.
This is also still false at the national level.

Real education funding INCREASED by 4% over the last decade.

Here is the before & after

But the correction is still incorrect.
Here are the per pupil spending numbers for Pennsylvania:

2009: $16,327
2018: $19,060

This is a 17% real INCREASE

The article correction needs a correction.

@juliana_f_reyes your correction in @PhillyInquirer says "drastic cuts to funding over the last decade."

That statement is still false.

Inflation-adjusted per pupil spending increased by 17% from 2009 to 2018 in Pennsylvania.

UPDATE: @PhillyInquirer made another correction and got it right this time.

Before: Education has seen "drastic cuts to funding over the last few decades"

After: "Despite increases to education funding..."
