Every time I see a “discernment” social media guy, I have a question. What’s your history with healthy local churches? Many of these folks have hopped from place to place, and have started their own thing more than once. No one measures up (for long) except them, and their circle

dangers that need to be confronted? Has the truth always called for defense with courage and clarity? Yes! But it is the church that is the pillar and support of the truth, not a guy sitting at a computer or on a phone video. What is your history with churches you didn’t start?
It’s a good question to ask anyone involved in “discernment ministry.” To be crystal clear, there are good men involved in raising legitimate alarms. But they wouldn’t fit my description either. You would find them humble, teachable, and a history of faithfulness. Where you...
...find constant ranting, be careful. It is true that Paul warned elders night and day, and with tears. It’s also true that much of the NT came through that same man, and his teaching was deep, broad, pastoral, patient, and edifying. Scripture can be distorted by emphasis.
Sound pastoral ministry is not an unending venting of what bothered you lately. Mature believers recognize these things, but it’s young believers who are vulnerable to these folks. Be warned.
