One of the most invincibly stupid and bigoted beliefs of the Left is that white conservatives would abandon the 2nd Amendment if lots of black people applied for concealed or open-carry permits. They believe this no matter how often blacks are warmly welcomed at 2A events.
In truth, a vast surge of minority voters embracing gun rights and applying for permits would be an existential crisis for the Democrat Party. It's not an implausible scenario. The 2A could become a conservative bridge to black voters weary of crime.
Concealed carry permits are not easy to obtain and keep. Qualifying for one is a significant achievement. The message of responsibility and individual empowerment that comes through the 2A is a message conservatives want to send, and that law-abiding minority voters want to hear.
The Left is so blinded by its prejudice, so convinced that all who oppose it are "white supremacists," that they overlook the threat posed to their hammerlock on minority voters by the 2A. It's one of the few bridges into minority communities they aren't patrolling.
Contrast this with religious appeals, a threat the Left is very much on guard against. They work vigorously to prevent black and Hispanic voters from feeling religious kinship to white conservatives or rallying with them on issues like abortion and marriage.
One way the Left keeps those escape routes for black voters sealed is by convincing them white conservatives are hypocritical and judgmental, i.e. they would make life for black youth worse by making abortions harder to get, they look upon black illegitimacy rates with contempt.
These scurrilous arguments would be extremely difficult to make against white conservatives urging black voters to embrace the 2A and exercise their gun rights. There is no hypocrisy angle to what the 2A represents, no fantasies about sinister hidden motives to peddle.
They could try claiming white conservatives only want more black gun owners because they hope more black people would shoot each other, but that would be a tough sell and perilous for the Left, given how their policies have turned inner cities into gang bloodbaths.
The Left is too contemptuous of the Second Amendment to understand the ideological threat it poses to their grip on minority voters. We should hit that blind spot harder. Much of conservatism can be extrapolated from the 2A. It's an excellent ideological beachhead. /end
