1. Rhaegal was killed randomly by the Iron Fleet - wtf
2. Dany became some sort of *actual* murderous tyrant - wtf
1, she had suffered a lot herself in life, and *tries* to be a good ruler, *tries* to do the right thing. She might be a bit of a megalomaniac, but we root for her because she *tries*. She’s conflicted, isolated, an outsider...
The bells are ringing. King’s Landing has surrendered. Dany *stands down*.
And then some fool, maybe a glory-seeking dragon-slayer-wannabe Golden Company lieutenant - kills Rhaegal!!
Then this makes sense!!!!
consider instead: by going on a *little* bit of a rampage, Dany + Drogon *accidentally* set off a cache of wildfire.
Meaning she does a lot more damage than she intends to do, even in her moment of understandable rage
Dany is hurting - she has just lost her child, AND she has done a lot more damage than she intended, which she feels guilt about
But Jon has already been persuaded that she’s unfit to rule
This scene becomes so much more tragic!!
Jon: I had no choice but to kill her! Dany had gone mad!
Bran:
Also RIP always to Margaery Tyrell, the actual deserving Queen of Westeros
