A lot of talk about how the UK could aim for an Australia-style free trade deal.

Grab a map. Take a look at how many potential trading partners are 30 miles from Australia, as we are from the EU.

Then try again giving yourself a 1,000-mile radius. Still nothing?

Then shut up.
NOTE: we ship over 99% of what we import and export by sea, not by air. So it is genuinely both pointless and irrelevant to talk about air freight times from Australia.

Put plainly, comparing our situation to Australia's is like comparing apples and an etch-a-sketch of oranges.
But of course here's the real kicker, once you've put the globe away: the EU doesn't have a trade deal with Australia.

So what they're *really* saying is "we'd like to negotiate in such a way as to ensure we end up with nothing at all."

What ambition! What drive! What a future!
