it doesn't matter whether people were serious or not, the fact remains that this thing fell apart under what is, in this day and age, an extremely pathetic amount of traffic, and everyone's fucking right. tons of people do make things that work much better in much less time.
i really hate the "build everything to scale" mentality that has turned hello world into "now spin up three hundred docker images on VMs" this is how everything works now and the industry is *absolutely saturated* with people who don't think in scales under thousands
what everyone is saying is more like "i bet these motherfuckers didn't even try hitting it with a few hundred concurrent connections" and they're probably right. they probably didn't. tons of utterly average programmers do that like they breathe
if a corporation decides they want an app in less than three months, most of the time the thing that comes out doesn't fall over like an MMO on opening week, even if it sucks. i hate computer programs but yeah this was pathetic even for computer programs
it's JUST the government. it's JUST institutions that get software this bad. it's trivial to find people who can do better than this, and they search far and wide to find people who can't. doesn't matter if its those peoples "fault"
so what the fuck motivates a person to respond to people *rightly* saying "this is something me and people i know do without even blinking, which makes it staggering that they found someone who couldn't do this" with "uhhh no you're wrong"
