While Twitter was down, I was searching the L.A. Times archives for stories about the Spanish flu and found, like, the quintessential 1919 newspaper story.

Not exactly a glorious moment in labor history: A bunch of nurses at the L.A. County hospital threatened to go on strike in 1918 over the admission of four Black nurses, but they decided to call it off because of the flu epidemic.
sort of a sci-fi quality to some of these L.A. Times editorials, given that the country was fighting a war and a plague at the same time
Here's the advice they were giving out in 1918 on how to avoid the flu. I'm partial to "Avoid the person who spits where it will spread disease. He is dangerous as well as indecent."
