Rishi Sunak is wrong. Being in a customs union with the EU would have no impact on the NHS whatsoever.
If the UK is in a customs union with the EU and the EU negotiates a FTA with, say, Indonesia, the UK would also be obliged to negotiate a FTA with Indonesia that lowers preferential tariffs to the same level as EU.

UK not obliged to include anything the EU did on services.
As we've been repeatedly going over this for three years or so, here's a customs union #dataviz I prepared earlier.

It has been brought to my attention that we need to sort out this using "no deal" to refer to 2 completely different things thing.

Leaving the EU without a withdrawal agreement is "no deal".

So what's leaving the EU with a WA but then failing to negotiate a future partnership?
No deal revisited? No deal 2.0? The remix to no deal?
Ummm. Lot's of excellent/terrible suggestions. Perhaps we will need to put it to a people's vote.

Have spoken to a lot of small businesses over the past couple of weeks. Some thoughts on no deal and accidental illegality.

The first thing to say is majority I have spoken to have been preparing. I would say slightly better prepared than in March.
But most will still have missed something. Some examples:

1. Labelling. Post-Brexit all packaged food exports from UK to EU will need address of the EU-based importer or distributer on it. The packaging will no longer be able to show a made in EU stamp.

Few companies know this.
2. Liability. The liability for certifying that a product placed on the EU market conforms with EU standards will shift from UK producer to EU importer. Importer may refuse to take on liability or require additional assurances. Address of EU importer will need to be on product.

A while ago I wrote a paper in which I estimated the potential impact being in a free trade agreement (much like the one Johnson wants) would have on UK services exports to the EU.

For reference, Northern Ireland’s Department for the Economy estimated the equivalent tariff cost (if tariffs were levied on services, which they aren’t) of trade barriers facing UK services exporters to the EU, post-Brexit.

On the summary exit declarations, @SteveBarclay mentioned today. It's important to understand what they are, why they are submitted and how they differ from #customs declarations.

@SteveBarclay Exit/entry declarations are slightly different than customs decs. Before import/export there is a requirement to submit a pre-arrival, pre-departure notification - info that allows authorities to control what's moving across borders from a safety and security perspective.

@SteveBarclay This information is mainly used for risk analysis and not to calculate the amount of duties due or apply other trade policy measures as in the case of customs declarations.
In principle, they are submitted by the carrier not the importer/exporter

1) Corbyn = #Brexit = NHS sell off
Difficult to understand attitude of remaining Corbyn supporters as being any more than a cult of personality in the same vein as Farage (only less successful currently)
Corbyn supports Brexit, and Brexit means the dismantling of the #NHS
2) Whatever Corbyn says, or his supporters believe, there is no Labour #Brexit, or Jobs first Brexit, or "protect the NHS" Brexit, there's just Brexit - and a weakening of the UK's protections and institutions which will undermine the NHS and worker protections
3) it's well documented that there is no love for the NHS, or worker protections, in the right wing of the Tory party and Faragists. Its also well documented that the NHS is disliked by many US interests because its powerful enough to set drug prices

A reflection back on the #NHS review (topol.hee.nhs.uk) and some differences between #US and #UK #healthcare:
1. The #1 source of jobs in both countries is from healthcare, which continues to rise with a steep slope (mostly non-physicians)
The #US now spends more than $11,000 per person for healthcare, while the #UK ~$4,000. Yet life expectancy has declined in the #US for each of the past 3 years, while it continues to increase in the #UK (graph adopted from @OurWorldInData)
3. The @commonwealthfnd ranks the #UK first and the #US last of 11 countries overall, with differences in 5 sub-categories charted here

This is gonna be long, but I think it's worth it. A well-regarded twitter poster, let’s call him Giorgio, has recently publish a thread stating among other things as follows. “The pathways to stopping or delaying Brexit are blocked.
But once the mandate is discharged, the pathways to UK rejoining, or being in a close association agreement with EU, within the single market and customs union, will be open, with no obstacles.”
This approach annoys me for two reasons, one because Giorgio seems to be attempting to cajole Remainers to put all activity on hold until we actually leave the #EU.
