Me : It means that thought leaders are people that spend far too long pleasuring themselves through intellectual self gratification. Why anyone would call themselves that or "visionary" is beyond me.

Me : Not really, other than I can't take the term "thought leader" seriously. I agree with @mipsytipsy on this.

Me : Personally, I ask whether this is being written for reasons of money or out of a desire to help. I delete all the money side.

Me : Every think tank, every commercial posting or funded report, most press ... just ask the question, if they weren't being paid to write this then would they? Go hunt down the people who are writing because they are passionate about a subject.
X : That seems a bit cynical.
Me : Oh, cynicism is an essential must have these days and I always start with questions of "why are you writing this, who is paying you and how are you messing with me?"

Having worked extensively in cloud (2006-2011) and kept an eye on the field since, I find this claim vexatious because poor old Oracle has been the butt of cloud jokes for almost a decade. I would question how much of this is related to shoddy investment research.
i.e. If Oracle claimed that it could not have misled as everyone in cloud has known "Oracle was nowhere in cloud for the last decade" and its efforts were just marketing ... I personally think you'd struggle to find anyone of any repute in the cloud industry to disagree.

Me : If you're an alien race talking with billions of other alien races then I could imagine in the great vastness of space that Earth would be very dull indeed. The only people who would be excited to talk to us would be other races looking for races to talk to.
X : So basically you're saying they would ignore us?
Me : Do you live in the UK?
X : Yes.
Me : Do you get really excited by every new person born and go out of your way to talk to them?
X : No
Me : Well, there's your answer. Probably.

1/ My recent book TEMP was largely a history of how management consultants, especially ##McKinsey, destroyed the American Dream of job security.

#McKinsey helped teach corporations how to use outsourced labor.
2/ But McKinsey also learned how to do that in Silicon Valley, and then school the world.

This #thread is long, but so is #history.
