People, I argued with my dad to vote for Carter from the backseat of an Oldsmobile station wagon when I was FIVE.

Telling me to vote blue no matter who when I am trying to explain to you that there are SERIOUS issues of race and gender at stake in this primary IS SILENCING.
I've been voting blue no matter who for as long as I could vote.

Your willingness to create false equivalencies among candidates while we're still in the primary is *part of the problem.*

I'm serious about this. Lives are on the line.
Go talk to your neighbors who voted Trump about voting blue no matter who.

And in the interim, listen to those of us who are deep in the issues for the candidates this primary and *shouting* about what's at stake with some of them.

Asking me if I’ll vote for Bloomberg when I am trying to talk to you about the serious impact of stop and frisk on POC during the time I lived there is a sign of your obvious unwillingness to consider the harm he’s caused.

Don’t ask me again. You know what you’re doing. So do I.
One other thing: imagine the most invasive TSA pat down you’ve ever had. Maybe your crotch gets grabbed, or your boobs. Maybe you’re asked to spread your legs while they check your thighs.

Now imagine that happening every day on your way to school or work, randomly, anywhere.
Now imagine that you were powerless to stop it and it was your entire life, day in, day out, for 12+ years.

Crotch grabbing, spread legs, being touched everywhere, no matter where, for no reason.

Now imagine everyone around you saying: vote for the guy who made that happen.

This is plainly going to be an evergreen tweet between now and November.

I took at 24 hour break from Twitter because I couldn't tolerate it any longer, and it took all of my willpower not to wipe my account overnight, and now here are liberal white folks at it again at 7:28 am.
Maintaining optimism in saving our democracy in 2020 by nominating a candidate that will turn out the vote in every community is becoming impossible, and it's not because of Trump.

It's because of white liberals who don't seem to understand that the nominee MATTERS for turnout
Only white people would ask POC to line up and vote for a nominee who stopped and frisked more than 600,000 people of color in a single year for NO REASON.

Imagine being asked to vote for a nom who did that because "vote blue no matter who."

I'd want to stay TF home.

THE WHO MATTERS.

NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO PICK HER.

IT'S THE PRIMARY FFS.
Vote Blue No Matter Who is becoming virtue signaling and silencing.

Assume everyone will do it. Stop retweeting it at people who are debating the real issues at stake in this primary.

And start listening to people whose lives will be directly impacted by the candidate.
I'm going to particularly ask white straight cis men to stop doing this.

If your rights aren't at stake in this election, you need to listen more and speak less to the issues that are really at stake in terms of who is the nominee.

One of the dangers (and draws) of populism is the grievance and Us vs Them mindset that results from the core belief that a group of outsiders has stolen the country (or democracy) from The People.
I used to think the difference between left- and right-wing populism was that the left defined The People as, roughly, the 99%, while the right defined The People as white Christians with “traditional family values”, with some anti-fat cat window dressing.
Now I don’t think the difference is quite so black and white.

Well, I still think that about right-wing populism. You can sum up Trumpism as “the Other stole this country from Real Americans, and we’re going to steal it back - and punish the people who betrayed us.”

My answer:

We need to replace the entire corrupt system, including corporate Dems. I've never voted for a Republican and never will, but if the Dem establishment wins the 2020 presidential race, I'll focus entirely on electing progressives to Congress.
We need a political revolution to overhaul the entire system. If an establishment Dem wins the 2020 primary, I'd rather expend my energy trying to elect principled progressives at the state and local level than work my ass off for more of the same caving to the GOP.
And please don't tell me this will help elect Trump. To the contrary, embracing and boosting bold progressives across the board is how we DEFEAT him.

Constantly settling for complicit Dems has brought us here. We can't keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

Ignore the polls and get out there and #Vote on November 6th. Relying on polling is a relic of a time gone by.
I’m not saying looking at @FiveThirtyEight’s model and charts and stuff isn’t cool, because it is and provides some insight. But no matter what the numbers say, it’s most certainly NEVER an excuse to not #Vote because you feel your peeps are a “lock”
Need nothing further than to point to 2016. Which by the way, @FiveThirtyEight didn’t really have wrong, but the “selected not elected” mindset existed before 2016. Why else would over 100 million people choose NOT to participate in their civic duty to choose their leaders.

Let’s add a little context to the discussion of voting security in the US. To do that, I’m going to do something Computer Scientists are bad at - I’m going to talk about history. Specifically, let’s look at the Help America #Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002. 1/
The reason to talk about HAVA is to start recognizing some of the challenges of paper ballot-based voting. HAVA came about largely because paper ballots were proving to be extremely difficult to manage. 2/
For instance, paper ballots are expensive (they’re not printed on standard college-rule paper), and they’re not reusable across elections. You’ve also got to try and guess who is going to show up to the poll, and how many ballots you’ll need in each language. 3/
