(1) I don't watch shows like the UK's Love Island so I'd never heard of Caroline Flack before today.

She was charged with assault in Dec 2019 after her boyfriend called Police. Today she was found dead, as a result of suicide.

(2) Social media is now full of comments like "murdered by the media" and "Harry and Meghan were right to get out of the UK."

I haven't tweeted about those two since the Queen's announcement of their agreed exit strategy bc I'm so sick of them. But I will say this:
(3) The British media are more intrusive than media elsewhere in the world, but it is possible to withstand them and live your best life, wherever you are.

Harry and Meghan will find that "doing a geographical" didn't solve anything. It made things worse.
(4) Despite what Caroline Flack may have done to her boyfriends, her death is a tragedy for her and those closest to her.

Any suicide, and especially that of a celebrity, can increase the risk of suicide in others.

Death is forever; give your loved ones an extra hug today.
(5) Domestic violence can affect anyone: male or female, rich or poor, straight or gay. The same goes for sexual assault.

Abuse is strongly linked to mental health. People need to get out, stay out, and get professional help.

>US (800) 273-TALK

(6) Update: New info about events shortly before the death of Caroline Flack:

Domestic assault defendants usually are terrified about evidence in court. They are at higher risk for suicide.

(7) It is clear she did assault her boyfriend, she admitted it. The deep cuts to her wrist were originally said to be accidental, from breaking a glass, but now it appears they may have been self inflicted. She vocalized suicidal thoughts in Dec, & on the eve of her death.
(8) Sadly it is common for a suicidal person to act well enough to get mental health providers to leave.

What happened the next day was that her friend broke "suicide watch" & didn't arrange for someone to take over while she was out.

(9) Flack's own management agents are blaming the Police prosecutors, and everyone else, and not themselves. Said she should have had psychiatric care.

Why didn't they organize it for her?

Same reason Tom Petty, Michael Jackson, & others were failed by their entourage. Fear.
(10) I've written before about celeb handlers/close fam doing this. Out of fear they slink back & act as if their mentally ill &/or drug addicted client/loved one is in full charge of their faculties. Next min, the celeb is dead.

I absolutely support the decision to prosecute.
(11) When a person is mentally ill to the point they'll assault others, cut themselves, use suicidal threats to control people, that person needs to be locked up & treated.

The CPS cannot ever drop a domestic violence case bc the defendant is "vulnerable." The cycle continues.
(12) An ex-boyfriend of Caroline Flack's publicly stated that he was not surprised when Police later arrested her for domestic violence.

That man took a one way flight to Australia to get away from the drama & harassment.

Media are on the side of the abuser bc she is female.
(13) I've bn a survivor (never victim) of domestic violence on more than one occasion. The worst of my abusers had a track record with partners before, & after, me.

The first few times, I didn't tell Police. Then I did.

Walked away with a clear conscience. Maybe saved others.
(14) All who personally knew Caroline Flack are distraught, grief stricken, & questioning whether they could have done more.

I've done that after every suicide that's affected me, too. It's normal.

I'm not attacking them, just hoping to raise awareness.
(15) End the silence on domestic violence.

If someone you know is suicidal, or has mental health, substance, or other life threatening issues, please speak up.

Don't leave them alone. Organize a roster.

Get them professional help. Don't take no for an answer.
(16) Caroline Flack could have gotten through this court case, gotten well, and lived a full and fulfilling life. But her mental illness would not allow her to see that.

Same as a dear friend of mine who suicided after losing her career. She had other talents, could've rebuilt.
(17) People would have understood. And those that didn't, were never going to anyway.

I can only hope that some people learn from this, & a few potential suicidal cases can be turned around.

Life is precious. Stay alive.
