(1) Short thread on Barr's comment about Trump tweets.

I've watched the 5 minutes of the ABC interview with Barr. I couldn't find anything to disagree with him about.

I have a slight disagreement with part of the WH statement, but whatever.
(2) Barr, like me, was very specific in his word choices. He wants POTUS to stop tweeting about DOJ cases that are:

>in the criminal jurisdiction and
>sub judice and
>related to Trump's personal interests.

Not tweeting about the DOJ in general.
(3) I've said the same things, publicly, on earlier occasions like this one.

Sub judice is paramount, esp for the head of the executive branch. That will never change.

We can lose the advantage in cases that have real world consequences, eg the travel ban.
(4) Now, I can readily agree that 7-9 years for the particular crimes of which the particular defendant (Stone) had been convicted would be ridiculous, and harmful to the public interest.

That's why Barr had already started the process of addressing it the following morning.
(5) So, POTUS knew that his tweet would not change anything in the real world. He made it for political purposes. Which, as the WH said, he has the right to do.

He alone is responsible for the political calculations he makes, and his record of success is second to none.
(6) We each have a job to do in 2020. POTUS has his, Barr has his, and for most of the rest of Americans who support the MAGA agenda, your duty is to vote red down the whole ballot, & help get as many other voters as you can to do the same.

Trump & Barr will handle the DOJ.
(7) You do your job, Trump will do his, and I will do mine.

Which is foreign interference, lol.

Look, I love the USA, and what happens there affects the rest of us in the world, esp. Pacific neighbors like NZ.

I enjoy celebrating Trump success with y'all.
(8) The part of the WH statement I dislike is that yes of course as a citizen, Trump has the right to say whatever he wants. However, he knows darn well that a sitting President holding forth on a criminal case that is sub judice is gonna garner criticism from many supporters.
(9) We're allowed to criticise a specific action while still pinching ourselves every day that we get to be alive at a time like this. We are witnessing historic gains and shifts that many never thought possible.

I've never been so moved by what a leader is achieving.
(10) I know that in due course the DOJ & judiciary swamps will be drained. A degree of justice will be done. There can never be full justice on earth... but we'll be protected from evil to a far greater degree than before the Trump era.

It's all gonna work out. Watch.🍿
