had the thought "it'd be great if i could drop youtube urls into some native app that consumes media keys reliably" and 15 minutes later gave up on that ever working
i immediately found three approaches. one was VLC (no), one was someones beautiful native app made for this express purpose but which couldn't accept a youtube url, and the third was mpv which has no real UI and crashed when i dragged a URL into it
a thing i like to always remember is that nobody has solved any problems on the computer unless they know at least 250,000 people will beat down their door for the solution, because every six days we begin trying to solve the same problems we've had since 1983 from scratch
we can't even settle on a way to "play a video." why on earth would my neat little half-formed thought have a solution
it's also stupefyingly, unbelievably difficult to build this myself. it wouldn't be for a person who soaks in This Bullshit day in and out, it would be a triviality, but to get ramped up on it myself would take months
yes, i know what "trivial" does and doesn't mean here. do not @ me about programming the computer
