@unherd @TomChivers One point not made is that the very idea of people having a "cold, rational, philosophical" discussion about an issue like eugenics is appalling to those for whom it is an existential issue
@unherd @TomChivers You can say as a scientist that we should be able to discuss any ideas freely, in that cold, detached way, but raising the issue of whether eugenics would "work" is like asking whether apartheid "worked"...
@unherd @TomChivers For people at the sharp end of the stick, these aren't just academic issues and attempting to dissociate the science and the morality sounds a lot like rehabilitating the idea
