Pet peeve: people narrating their talks. It takes twice as long to tell me something if you're constantly telling me that you're telling me...
I don't mind some judicious signposting or summarising, but, ffs, just prepare what you mean to say and say it...
And you don't have to give voice to every random thought that pops into your head as you go along either, like you're surprised by your own slides...

@ETCirulli Provides yet more evidence that variation in our traits is NOT just caused by common variants. We all also carry many rare variants (some very rare or even private) that make very large contributions to our phenotypes
@ETCirulli The important effects of rare variants place limits on the usefulness of polygenic scores, which are based on profiles of common variants only and which give a very limited picture of genetic variation

We believe #autistic people of all ages & abilities deserve to be treated with respect, have their civil rights & humanity recognized, & have access to the resources & accommodations they need. We will not support autism organizations that do not abide by these basic precepts. 2/
We acknowledge that it can be difficult to identify #autism orgs that legitimately work towards the best interest of autistic people & their families, as questionable autism orgs tend to employ vocabulary of acceptance & support—even when actively undermining those principles. 3/

@Twitter I drafted a tweet on my phone but of course, can't access "draft's" on the desktop. So lets maybe start there. The desktop and @Tweetdeck version should be MORE robust than the mobile app not less. Tweetdeck, for example, has no bookmarks, emoji's, live video, polls, gif's, etc
@Twitter @TweetDeck There are SO MANY great meaningful quotes, threads, replies, and conversations that vanish into the Twitter ether, drowned out by hot takes, snark, and 280 character riffs on what some influencer or politician just did. Find a way to collect and resurface this treasure trove.

I've had 30+ jobs in 40+ years but then I only discovered last year I'm #ActuallyAutistic

As a child my career aspirations were:
a) nun
b) lighthouse keeper
c) almoner*

In the sixth form my art teacher got me a Saturday job at a picture framer's. My main role was making excuses when customers phoned.

A trip to buy supplies with the owner turned dodgy but luckily I had the presence of mind to get away.

In my university vacations I worked back to back shifts in a bakery and local cinema to save up money.

On my first shift in the cinema the senior usherette threw hot tea over me. I was promoted to cashier and removed to the box office, out of harm's way #ActuallyAutistic 3/

[1] Let me explain it for you in this thread. @IUCNRedList and their many partner organisations have been producing detailed assessments of species extinction risk in different taxonomic groups since 1994 (when the first comprehensive #RedList assessment of birds came out)
[2] Obviously we can't be at all sure that birds are typical, so it would have been wildly unsafe to go from "14% of birds are threatened" to "14% of all species are threatened". Since then, @IUCNRedList assessments have been done for an ever-expanding set of taxonomic groups...
[3] ...with the proportion threatened ranging from ~9% for bony fishes up over 60% for cycads. But the *average* level of threat has started to settle down now, at about 25%, and we now have estimates for lots of different vertebrate, invertebrate and plant groups...
