Yes, Seth Rich/#SethRich is trending again. What's that about? Not bots, by and large - only about 0.5% of the traffic looks automated. The cast of characters involved is interesting, though. . .

@ZellaQuixote Today's #SethRich trend is primarily driven by @JudicialWatch (amusingly, one of the few automated accounts in the mix), which announced today that it filed a FOIA for FBI records related to Rich's death. Other major blue-check #MAGA accounts joined the party. #AltWankers
@ZellaQuixote @JudicialWatch Also joining the party are @GregRubini, a possibly inauthentic right-wing conspiracy account we recently analyzed, and former Power10 account @TheRightMelissa. @HKrassenstein is the most prominent left-wing node, with a tweet attributing the trend to "Russian bots" sans evidence.

It's almost all far-right sites, with DC Patriot (@RealMattCouch's site), Gateway Pundit, and the aforementioned Judicial Watch comprising the bulk of the material.

@ZellaQuixote We captured 48 hours worth of English tweets posted with Cheap Bots Done Quick, yielding 298642 tweets from 8235 accounts. The spikes in the chart correspond to the various tweet frequencies the app offers.
@ZellaQuixote Tweets sent via Cheap Bots Done Quick are repetitive, but exact duplicates are less common than with other tools due to the random aspect. The probability of any given word appearing remains constant, however (assuming the operator doesn't reconfigure the bot.)

Who's tweeting about George Soros these days? Mostly major #MAGA accounts - the most-retweeted accounts are @RudyGiuliani, @seanhannity, @JudicialWatch, and something called @X22Report that incorporates Soros into coronavirus conspiracy theories.

We took a snapshot of 24 hours worth of English tweets (excluding retweets) containing coronavirus/#coronavirus. A significant fraction of the traffic is automated - 65347 of 360035 tweets (18.2%). 7544 accounts posted multiple automated tweets.

@ZellaQuixote Despite the large number of automated coronavirus tweets, we didn't see evidence of large scale botnets; the automated accounts appear to be mostly solo acts. We did find 64 automated accounts that appear to have dedicated themselves to tweeting about coronavirus, though.
@ZellaQuixote These 64 bots (once again, we don't have evidence that they're a single network, but our metrics ain't perfect and absence of evidence ain't evidence of absence) link a variety of websites. Some of the more interesting ones: Amazon (more on that later), Epoch Times, and Reddit.
