WASHINGTON DC - BUILT AT THE COST OF THE BLOOD OF IGBOS
No matter the number of times you arrive in fully established societies like @MoghaluKingsley enthused on his arrival at Washington DC, coming from Nigeria, you will feel a gust of modernity thumping at your psyche.
Washington DC was founded on July 16, 1790, almost 230yrs ago!
It was also in 1790, same year, that Major Daniel Houghton started tracing the course of River Niger, but died in the Sahara desert; then Mungo Park continued, after which he discovered a river that wasnt missing.
Of all Nigerians, an Nnewi Igbo should be the last to be cynically phantasmagorical in his description of a civilization built at the cost of the blood of his fathers; abducted against their will. This is a typical curation about slave trade at all DC's Smithsonian institutions.
Many yet to be disputed academic authorities indicated over half (~850,000) of US slaves population were supplied through Virginia to construct the White House and the Capitol Building, suggesting 44% of these slaves originated from Bight of Biafra. whitehousehistory.org/questions/did-…
Douglas B. Chambers - Murder at Montpelier: Igbo Africans in Virginia, published in 2005, graphically chronicled the significance of Igbos amongst Virginia slaves that built DC. They fought gallantly, committing suicide sometimes to discourage further purchase of Igbo slaves.
Not in itself an excuse, slave trade is a significant attenuating factor which limited Africa's civilisation at incubation, topically discussed officially by descendants of slave trade originators. But African lineage of people impacted prefer to discuss with cab drivers in DC.
@MoghaluKingsley's father, during @MoghaluKingsley's childhood, served Nigeria as a foreign service officer. This is a sufficient tell-tale he's in the class of 1% of the 1% that has fetched from the bowels of a nation that he now sees as half full because we didn't vote for him.
I've travelled a little and I've found out there's this prevalent mentality amongst many Nigerians, who have acquired graduate academic degrees abroad, that the combined political intellectual capacity resident in Nigeria is inferior, compared to theirs, as a diaspora spectator.
All the foreign degrees @MoghaluKingsley acquired were acquired on the thrust of the decrepit, but free undergraduate education Nigeria provided at Nsukka. Bill Gates is currently helping combat Lassa fever in Nnewi. He will not die, if he has positive things to say about Nigeria
On patriotism, even in our parlous state, @anthonyfjoshua has a lot to teach @MoghaluKingsley. Over 1.3 million Igbos were abducted to build his DC's basis of comparison. Ironically, he was comparing Nigeria with DC, talking to cameroonians, who still smuggle petrol from Nigeria.
