Understanding why thousands of eligible votes are thrown out!?🗳️❌🗑️
It’s taken a lawsuit, over a $1,000 in open records fees, and who knows how many hundreds of hours of research. This explains the solution, but the problem is more concerning.(1/5) cjonline.com/news/20200222/… #ksleg
Bureaucratic error (human and technical) means people register to vote, but the government loses their registration. In 2016, you may recall that the Secretary of State’s online voter registration system was riddled with issues that lost unknown numbers of registrations.(2/5)
Addressing deadline disenfranchisement is a matter of national security. Voter registration databases are being targeted for cyber attacks because minor alterations to them can make people appear unregistered. Right now, these victims would have their votes tossed. (3/5)
There are even circumstances where it’d be illegal for someone to register 21-days before, but they’re eligible on Election Day. This includes Kansans whose civil rights are restored post-felony and those who are newly sworn in U.S. citizens. (4/5)
Already, most counted provisionals come from Kansans who missed the deadline, but exist in various scenarios exempt from the deadline like in-county moves & name changes.
Let’s apply this protection to all Kansans - if you’re otherwise eligible, your vote counts. 🚯✅ (5/5)
