1/ While I'm obviously glad to see #games heading in the direction of "don't pay for the same game twice", I think a lot of people have misinterpreted the WHY and the HOW games work on #XboxSeriesX. XSX is an Xbox just like X1X is an Xbox...
2/ ...just like #XboxOne is an Xbox. While there are some technical differences, the XSX isn't the same transition as going from original Xbox to Xbox 360. The device is fundamentally an #Xbox family device...so of course you don't have to buy the same thing twice.
3/ And I'm not taking ANYTHING away from #Microsoft here. I am a big proponent of this business model. I was championing this type of upgrade model years ago, back when people laughed at the idea. But, I think the story of what's going on here...
4/ ...has been misconstrued. #Games that you buy on #XboxOne, either digitally or disc, will continue to work on XSX because at the technical level, it's a similar platform (akin to buying a gaming PC or new Samsung phone).
5/ #Microsoft has been pushing this for years, encouraging developers to adhere to a common set of APIs when building across #windows devices. And now that #Windows10 is the base level windows platform, it's closer than ever to being a reality.
6/ Again, while I love this new era of #gaming we're heading into, announcing that a game doesn't have to be bought on XSX (when it's already owned on Xbox) is like announcing that your steam games will work on your new computer.
7/ Could there be a technical bugs or issues that studios need to patch? Well, yes, of course. This is software & IT, so there WILL be bugs. But, from the standpoint of the device, it's *another* Xbox in the family of #Windows devices, and that's the point.

1/ Launched on December 20, 2011, #SWTOR (Star Wars The Old Republic) was a successful release, but soon found itself rapidly losing #MMORPG customers due to weak end game support and the mistake of opening too many servers at once.
2/ #Bioware quickly reformed the game into a F2P + Premium model that saw many people return or come back to the game casually. Those of us that stuck with it were treated to many years of high quality content and a ridiculous amount of story + #RPG content.
3/ While #SWTOR was never the #WorldOfWarcraft "killer" that people may have wanted, it was an excellent MMORPG in its own right, being constantly updated, even today. I stuck with it many years (2011-2015) and once more in 2018.

My official position on the "How do you pay for M4A?" question:

1. It is an extremely important topic in the abstract, and Sanders has not offered a satisfying answer.

2. Given M4A's chances of even making it to committee, it's tiresome to keep rehashing the conversation.
3. It's obviously going to come up in the general. But as far as the primary goes, I think Democratic attitudes about the issue are pretty baked in.
4. I think there's a general lack of understanding about why Bernie's hardcore supporters care so much about his unwavering stance on single-payer.

(Warning: I'm basically about to psycho-analyze a bunch of voters.)

Growing up and through most of my undergrad, I self-identified as a 'writing person.' "I'm bad at math, but really good at English," I would tell others. My grades in HS and college reflected this -- A's across the board in English, C's to F's in math. 2/x
It took me a really long time, and therapy, to figure out why this was the case. I lost most of my 8th grade math education to a revolving door of teachers (6 in 1 year). In 9th grade, at BxSci, I got my period during a geometry exam. 3/x

The Game Developer's Conference is next week, which always puts me in a mindset of "lessons and advice for aspiring writers." (Also, the world feels dark right now and I need a distraction.) To that end... here's a thread of random suggestions:
1) I've yet to find a better online source of advice on writing fiction (novels, mostly, though many of the lessons apply cross-medium) than @PatriciaCWrede's blog. Dive in and soak it up: pcwrede.com/blog/
2a) Conferences like GDC are great for meeting people. All sorts of people, even those who aren't in your discipline or available to hire you. Develop a network that can tell you, "Hey, I heard X was looking for a writer..." when something comes up.
