1️⃣ My student (I have her permission to say this) who is Chinese started having a fever last Saturday.
Now 9 days. Also has a cough and now chest pain.
She’s dead scared.
She has not been to China recently but I would be equally scared.
Today we had a chat and I suggested her to call 111 again since:
1. She has a fever for 9 days
2. Now UK has 35 cases
1. In China she would have been tested. Her parents are worried.
2. She is an international student. First year in the UK. No family, no close friends. No help!
She really needs the extra psychological support & reassurance from the NHS
So 7pm 111 called back & said she has a chest infection & needs to go in for a test to rule out anything more serious (including #covid19UK)
She was told to go to Lewisham Hospital A&E @LG_NHS
While still suffering from a fever, she made the difficult trip to the hospital
this is when things stopped to make any sense.
she arrived but was not even allowed in. The @LG_NHS hospital security guard stoped her and sent her to a #coronaviruspod
She was told to call the NHS there!!
@NHSEngland was equally puzzled why she’s told to call!
NHS over the phone had no clue so they gave her a number of the hospital she was in!!!
And finally through hospital reception she was put to speak to someone who’s “in charge”.
This person then told her bc she has not been to “infected areas”, they cannot offer ANY tests!!
fever for 9 days, chest pain, cough, symptoms getting worse, psychological stress for being on her own with no support..,
All the hospital person in charge could say was:
Go home, drink more water. Sorry no tests.
She told me the person on the phone was in a hurry to brush her off, as obviously they wanted nothing to do with #COVID!
You won’t expect that from a UK hospital will you???
1. Conflict info 111 & hospitals. Patients being kicked around like a football.
2. Security Guard barred her from entering A&E - is she potentially contagious or not???
3. She got worse due to exhaustion from this trip. Who to blame??
Now I want to ask:
Is the NHS prepared to handle #COVID?
Or should I get a ticket to China? At least now they seem to have a better clue!
I don’t think she has #COVID19 but very upset that 111 sent her to A&E just for the A&E to bar her from entering!
UK is basically not testing. If you don’t test you don’t have cases, until more people die and the truth will come out!
