Working on column on this so about school closings and mandatory work from home. The "trigger" for activation of continuity plans during a pandemic is almost impossible to determine (compare hurricane, etc). A slow roll crisis has no "moment" to galvanize around. #coronavirus 1/
So one of the reasons why accurate information, reliable data, and of course a steady battle rhythm of truthful communications and outreach is so necessary (do you hear me!) by the government is because the void is filled with, for want of better word, trigger happiness. 2/
I think some of these actions are premature by even a week. I could be wrong, I often am. And I'm certainly not going to be judgey about it (not cool to make fun of people's panic). But I'm calculating lots of needs, including a society that doesn't get to Defcon 5 too soon. 3/
But I'm not surprised. In the vacuum of a sense of readiness and leadership, in response to the wasted time just hoping the virus could be contained, different institutions and actors will respond in ways that seem haphazard or may even be unnecessary. And that's where we are.4/
