In short, in Karnataka, Andhra and Maharashtra, the linguistic identity is almost totally dharmic [Hindu+Buddhist+Jain]. Kannada, Telugu and Marathi identities are practically dharmic identities, even when only the linguistic identity is taken, without any religious identity.
