Former Rep. Duncan Hunter has asked a court to dismiss the charges against him (after he pleaded guilty) because he says prosecutors were biased against him, and DOJ just responded with a detailed recitation of how he got himself under federal investigation. (Hint: By criming.)

Hunter's lawyer is acting astounded that two federal prosecutors were at a Hillary Clinton fundraiser in 2015 (in official capacity), which he says makes them irredeemably biased against Hunter.

Hunter's lawyer knew because he paid to attend the event, and spoke to them there.
Hunter's motion to dismiss was basically this ->
DOJ weighs in on political bias. Prosecutors are allowed to have political views, and the suggestion that you can't be investigated by people who backed a different candidate "is anathema to the democratic process and antithetical to the fair administration of justice."
