Hey, it's #GivingTuesday!

What could a donation to our new Investigative Journalism Fund mean for local reporting?

Your support would nearly *double* the size of our investigative team — helping us keep more folks in power accountable. 👇…
Our goal is to raise $1.5 million for reporting efforts spread over three years.

That means adding:
• two full-time reporters
• a data visualization specialist
• a videographer
• an editor to our existing team…
We'll launch the Miami Herald Investigative Journalism Fund when we reach $500,000 in support.

On #GivingTuesday (and #GivingNewsDay), help us do more of what we do best — investigative journalism.

On this #GivingTuesday, if you support a presidential candidate and want them to be able to stay in the race, you should consider giving a donation to their campaign.

I just gave to Elizabeth Warren.

Here’s the link to her campaign’s donation page:

We need his voice in the debates and in this presidential race.

Here is his campaign’s donation link:…

Here are cropped copies of my contribution receipts to Warren and Castro.

I want you to trust I am doing what I say in the hope it will prompt you to act as well.

Fwiw, I’m broke af right and had planned to fundraise for my own work today.

But, right now, this matters more.

Open wounds and blood loss can be some of the most dangerous issues on the battlefield.
First aid chests and U.S. Hospital Corps belts would be sure to contain sterile dressings to staunch bleeding. A kit with tools to stop bleeding.A kit with tools to stop bleeding.
During #WW1, sphagnum moss was used to create bandages and dressings like this one. While moss may seem like a weird fit, it was super absorbent, with antiseptic properties, and grew plentifully in America. A large absorbent pad.

For some, mental illness is a single episode at a particularly difficult point in time. For others, it is a lifelong burden.

Since tomorrow is #GivingTuesday, I want to pitch you all on giving to @immcouncil.

If you follow me, you probably have a sense of what we do. But there's so much more!

Here's a thread on just a few of the amazing things we've done in 2019.

Give here:…
Along with partners, @immcouncil's legal team in 2019

1. Stopped A.G. Barr from stripping asylum seekers of the right to seek bond;
2. Halted a nationwide expansion of fast-tracked "expedited" deportations.
3. Preserved the right to seek asylum for people subject to metering.
What @immcouncil's legal team did in 2019, cont'd:

4. Filed the first lawsuit on behalf of parents seeking to hold the government accountable for family separation;
5. Had the first-ever FOIA class action certified, in a lawsuit challenging delays in providing vital evidence.

Here's some tips for talking with your climate-denying relatives this #Thanksgiving. First, recognize that there is only a small chance of changing a climate denying cranky uncle about climate change. Some studies quantify the odds at 1 in 50! 1/5
This is because the very same science that a cranky uncle approves of in a missile is rejected if they think it threatens their ideology. 2/5
So pointing out reasoning fallacies in your cranky uncle's climate-denying arguments isn't about changing his mind, it's about inoculating everyone else against misinformation. Like exposing the sleight of hand in a magician's trick. 3/5

Did you know that military families frequently struggle with debt — and when they do, it raises their risk for depression, substance abuse and suicide? That equation affects a lot of people in the communities our newsrooms serve — and it’s one we can help change.
We’ve launched The #WarWithin Initiative in partnership with @RIPMedicalDebt, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that buys medical debt in bulk, for pennies on the dollar — and erases it.
@RIPMedicalDebt The money we raise will be used specifically to buy and abolish the medical debt of servicemembers, veterans and their families around the country. Each family we help will receive a letter telling them their debt has been forgiven, and they never have to worry about it again.
