Those who've never been poor can't imagine how much more fear there is right now for those of us who are.

Be aware that 1 in 8 women in the US lives in poverty. That number is higher for women 60+. Help where you can. Poor people learn to hide poverty as shameful. #coronavirus
1 in 12 American women lives on less than $2 a day. The poverty level is $5 a day. Many of you spend that on coffee alone.

And I am not asking for 💰--The Wife and I are managing okay for now. But I am asking you to be aware that there are poor people all around you right now.
80% of minimum wage workers in America are women. They will be hurt first by these new rules because they can't afford to stay home. They are also most likely to be laid off from hotel abd fast food work. And about 20% are single moms. So help where you can, please.

I watched my friends dying in the last pandemic. I laid down in the literal streets in die-ins in NYC, SF, DC and Philly and was arrested in civil disobedience protests trying to get the government to do something to stop the dying. One of the only people to help was Tony Fauci.
Science is not politics. It doesn't argue political agendas--it argues facts. The facts Fauci has presented this time are succinct as they sre devastating: if people don't stay home, practice scrupulous hygiene and #FlattenTheCurve, the death count will be stratospheric.
In times of crisis, Americans pull together. We have a long tradition of this. So why aren't we doing it now? Why aren't we working together to make sure everyone has what they need to manage during this unprecedented crisis? This is real. Don't be part of the problem.

There are currently THOUSANDS of Americans with #coronavirus. We know this is how the pandemic has operated everywhere. Many of you will have it with little serious illness. But for those in the high-risk categories, that it not the case. They will get very sick.

We ALL have to behave as if we're carriers who could infect someone who has a weakened immune system and thus at high risk. @CDCgov says 131M Americans have chronic illness like heart disease, #diabetes or #asthma. This virus is easy to transmit. You MUST follow the guidelines.2/
The rules are not unbearable. Stay in as much as possible. Wash your hands and face. Do not touch your face. Wash/alcohol your phones, keyboards, remotes. Wash your clothes if you've been outside. Do not sit or lie on your bed in your street clothes. Take shoes off indoors.

When you grow up poor you learn how to make a lot of food that is super cheap. When I was in the domestic Peace Corps I taught folks how to do this. btw, a delicious meal for four is a bag of 20c ramen and a bag of fresh mixed veg salad. In the microwave. Add hot sauce to taste.
Apparently I wasn't clear that YES the salad goes in with the ramen in the microwave in the same bowl for a pseudo-Asian soup.
Another good inexpensive meal is frittata. One egg per person. One medium yellow onion sliced. Two or three large white potatoes, sliced. Saute onion till clear. Boil potatoes with the onion until soft. Use as little water as possible as you will add the eggs to this.>>

I'm continuing my #BlackHistoryMonth focus of #FundBlackWomen into March. March is #WomensHistoryMonth& I'm going to keep the focus on Black Women. I had a plan for this week & scrapped it when I saw @blackgirlinmain and @DebbyIrving in Portsmouth on Sunday (it'll be next week.)
This past Sunday @BlackHeritageNH had one of their Tea Talks. It was the first one I was able to attend, and I was so glad I did! Over 200 people were at Temple Israel in Portsmouth.
Moments after arriving, a work friend found me, which was great, (not just because I got to see her, but because she's attended all of them so far, so she gave me a little breakdown of what they were like before they started.

There was already Discourse about the Mermaids stream and while I don't want to discourage constructive critical conversation, I should emphasise that events like this have tremendous value.
Today, I saw numerous trans women in my circles who have been struggling with the drumbeat of bad news--people whose health I worry about daily, some of whom even thought they'd have to go into hiding--feel utterly buoyed by the sudden parade of good news brought by the stream.
Glinner was just one of several powerful people in Britain who coordinated an assault on a charity that helps trans kids. It was *deeply* dispiriting to see, day after day, cis men and women with lofty platforms launching these attacks on our kids and our right to even exist.

This being said,
@iA You mentioned several points at once, so I tried to be concise and address all at once. My bad.

a) monetary value
b) energy consumption
c) energy waste
d) disappearance of fiat

Although they are indeed very much connected, they need to be untangled first.
@iA Also, I do realise your tweet was more of a rhetorical rant than an actual question. But coming from someone who famously brings thought process and philosophy to rants, I thought it was not innocent that you tweeted this, and therefore welcomed conversation, even rebuttal.
