In the previous Scottish Government consultation on reform of the Gender Recognition Act @EHRC @EHRCScotland asked for evidence to understand how the number of people w a GRC relates to unmet demand, and on the psychological impact of the application process.
In the latest one they don't mention this lack of research.

Nor do they reference any new research that fills the gap.

I'm still reflecting on what Judge Knowles said in Miller v College of Policing .... and the fact it has gone almost unnoticed by the human rights community & organised civil society @libertyhq @article19 @openDemocracy @OpenSociety @AmnestyUK @EquallyOurs @instituteforgov @NCVO
Either the judge was

A) massively overstepping the mark in his comparison w the Cheka, Gestapo & Stasi

Or

B) making a point, in fairly shocking terms, that needs understanding

Either way civil rights people just ignoring it seems weird, eerie....
Just as when I lost my job for saying that humans can't change sex & sex matters (... so transwomen are not women), this was either

A) awful bigoted, transphobic of me, and right that i should lose my job

Or

B) completely reasonable & unremarkable of me, and utterly unfair

The @Lawscot comments on GRA reform are a bit like Lisa Nandy

They talk about waiting times for healthcare attention, and then say that GRA should be reformed because it is "too medicalised" and it "does not properly take account of the emotional consequences of the procedure"
As if removing the administrative requirement for medical & mental health attention removes the need for this for people who need it. Or that the emotional issues are to do w the piece of paper & not the dysphoria

(why are lawyers commenting on 'emotional consequences'? 🙄)
They also say "some aspects of identity, such as driving licences & passports, are reserved matters [i.e. not devolved] If a person is to have a consistent gender identity these aspects require to be addressed."

Which is odd, since these things can already be changed w/out a GRC

1/ The Conservative party has an opportunity to put clear air between itself and the other mainstream political parties, by actually listening to women. The new minister for Women & Equalities, @AmberRuddHR has a unique opportunity to stand up for the rights of women and girls,
2/ rights that are enshrined in the 2010 Equality Act, rights that are under constant threat.
The Labour Party, the Liberal Democrats, and the Green Party, have all swallowed the bait ’Transwomen are women’, hook, line, and sinker.

There is a debate this morning in Parliament’s Westminster Hall on the proposals to allow self-identification of gender. David T C Davies has kicked off showing a complete lack of understanding about current prison policy.
He’s now stating that discussion on trans issues is being shut down. “This is about debate ... we have a right to discuss these issues.”
Having stated earlier that “80%” of trans people don’t undergo surgery, and pointing out that the current gender recognition act doesn’t require surgery, he then asks that people shouldn’t be vilified for saying that “women don’t have penises”.
