Politicians all over the globe lie to us all so readily, and in this post-truth era, exponentially so.

We have been swamped by an avalanche of lies over the past 4 years. We were unable to fight them and defend ourselves against them because the lies came so quick and fast

Our media, supposed guardians of the truth, didn't help us to fight this.

They pretty much allowed the lies to settle, unchallengend, like a thick blanket of snow. We could no longer tell what was what under the blanket of lies

When lies become so common and indestinguishable from truth, it causes not only political problems, but it spills into existential, psychological ones

Up is down, down is up, black is white, white is black.

We have gone through the looking glass. Our frames of references are fucked

This isn't just a UK/US issue. Fake news is everywhere. Lies are given equal value to truth - more so even

Then a pandemic happens. Governments are trying to take charge, to lead. But the years of lies have taken their toll

There doesn't need to be a conspiracy theory. All it takes is a misstep in communications, a leak, a misunderstanding and we are in full tin foil hat mode

It's a terrible feeling, this loss of trust. The uncertainty. The feeling that we aren't given the full picture. I fear for my family.

What can we do about it? I don't know. The damage from previous years has taken its toll. But what we need is transparency. Even with the difficult information.

In Sweden they published some guidance on how to speak to your children about #Corona. They advocate being transparent and open to questions.

I hope politicians will adopt the same approach - not just for #Corona but for other issues too. It's time for the truth to make a comeback and for lies to be exposed

Time to start rebuilding trust. Time to reconnect with the truth #MakeTheTruthGreatAgain
