Over 27,000 TPS holders in LA worked on the frontlines of the pandemic to keep our city running.
With TPS protections set to expire, we cannot wait to act. Today, I joined @Carecen_LA@TPS_Alliance to call on @POTUS to protect millions of #TPS holders who call our country home.
Our country has a moral obligation to help people fleeing violence & persecution in other countries.
The Biden administration must redesignate TPS protections for recipients from El Salvador, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Haiti. 2/4
I also urge the Administration to address the backlog of TPS designations for Black-majority countries — including Cameroon and Mauritania. 3/4

Congressman John Lewis was a man of immeasurable character, a civil rights icon who amplified the collective voices of a nation throughout his lifetime. His commitment to dismantle hatred and oppression in all its forms inspired generations...(1/4)
...and it was his shoulders we stood on in our fight for justice. His strength and resolve, showcased during the Nashville sit-in movement, the Freedom Rides, and the March on Washington, gave us the momentum to carry on and taught us the fortune of “good trouble.” (2/4)
Those of us who knew John Lewis and marched with him — whether to protest the detention of immigrant children or speak out against racial injustice — looked to him as a light for future generations. I am humbled to have served alongside him, the “Conscience of the Congress” (3/4)
On this historic day for #LGBTQ rights in our country, I’m going to #ShareTheMic with my brother Gerry:
The #SCOTUS ruling that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 provides workplace protections to #LGBTQ folks is a monumental move toward #EqualityForAll in America. (1/4)
Personally, as a gay man working in education, I’m reminded of the work done by Harvey Milk and his allies in defeating the Briggs Initiative that would have banned lesbian and gay teachers and their open supporters from teaching in public schools. (2/4)
With this ruling, #SCOTUS reaffirms what the majority of California voters passed 42 years ago. This is a huge victory for #LGBTQ folks in all professions. (3/4)
This transparency will help Congress maintain oversight, support the needs of field staff & increase the resources necessary for an accurate count where EVERYONE is represented & has a voice. ⬇️
