Guernsey’s latest government briefing now underway. Highlights in this thread as it goes along:

•From 6.30pm today nightclubs and bars that don’t serve food will close
•Restaurants and pubs that serve food can’t serve alcohol to non-diners
•Will last at least next 10 days
•Understand it’s short notice for licencees but it’s necessary, esp with students back for Easter and some saying they’re planning to go out drinking
•Follow spirit of rules, not just letter of law for good of community
•Desire is for businesses to trade but only in a safe way
•Social distancing remains vital when going to any restaurant or pub that’s serving food, vigilance is essential
•Students told that government understands it’s a “traumatic time” but they must follow rules
•On-island testing equipment has begun to arrive, more to follow
•Backlog of test results from UK is improving
•On-island testing could happen sooner than first planned (within weeks)
•Second case of coronavirus confirmed today, they’re doing well
•Second case had been on holiday in France 10 days ago, result came an hour ago, contacts now being traced
•Still no evidence of community transmission of virus
•Today’s restrictions on bars and clubs described as “proportionate response” to reduce close contact
•Following school closures, info now on States website about support for key workers, inc who a key worker is
•Reminder everyone should be social distancing right now
•Anyone in financial hardship as a result of today’s announcements should contact social security by phone
•Additional police on duty tonight to support licensees as new bar and nightclub closures come in
•Those who flout new rules will face full force of law
•Restaurants reminded their table layouts will need to change to accommodate social distancing
•Government acknowledges closures could risk more student house parties but hope they don’t and that parents will also enforce
•Chief Minister says: “Don’t party. Watch Netflix and get a takeaway”
•Financial support package announced for business will be reviewed as required
•How new hardship fund will be run still being finalised
•Arriving people who break strict 14 day self-isolation rule will face law enforcement action, could include arrest and detention
•Police will follow up on any info about any case of somebody flouting rules
