THREADETTE: I'm working on a Fake News piece and was researching the coverage of the Henry Ford Health System internal letter that was leaked. The letter portrayed it as if the hospital was short on respirators and using a HLUD system (Healthy Live Unhealthy Die). Well that 1/
2/ FAKE NEWS. The hospital system clarified that it "has not reached capacity at any of its locations, nor has it reached the limit on ventilators at any of its hospitals." Per @detroitnews detroitnews.com/story/news/loc…
3) That story came after the internal letter went viral on Twitter, posted by many including according to Detroit News, a one @nicholas_bagley. But he apparently had second thoughts:

So, because of DS's cystic fibrosis, the handwashing and Purelling of the public is our "norm" all the time. We normally go through boat loads of paper towels as a result, and I typically buy 3 - 4 12-packets every couple of weeks. DH was getting our groceries & stuff we're 1/
2/ running low on this a.m. and picked up 2 (less than our norm), and as he walked by one cop said to a second, we'll need to start limiting those to one. I'm thinking of copying our weekly grocery receipts so show we aren't hording. We go through more b/c we have to
3/3 wash hands more b/c we have to wash, sterlize, assemble medical equipment, and dispense lots of drugs every day. END

From reading twitter it is clear there are a lot of stressed out students and postdocs out there. It is really important to look out for your #mentalhealth during the next few weeks. My advice to @IMBatUQ researchers below - hoping everyone adopts similar policies
Our staff and students are the most important part of our existence. Our default position throughout this is
•Don’t get sick
•Protect you family and friends
•Protect those most at risk.
Do not get stressed about
•milestones,
•numbers of publications,
•lab experiments being delayed,
•promotions etc.
Remember, everyone in the world is in the same boat.

I have been off twitter for a while, trying to stay away from all of the negativity surrounding public education. Now that OECTA’s deal has leaked, I am back to weigh in and put in my 2 cents.
I am of 2 minds here. First, there are many strips still on the table. Why did teachers strike, give up about 3% pay, to accept worse conditions? It doesn’t seem to make sense.
Second, it’s not as bad as it could have been. I mean, 23:1 vs 28:1, 4 mandatory online courses vs 2 (with an opt-out), class caps still intact. After so much disruption, this is a pretty good deal on the surface.
