When you lose all sense of normal, what makes the difference between who survives and who sinks is, more than anything, the speed with which one abandons their ideas about "normalcy". If you know my story over the last 5-6 years you'd know I know what I'm talking about.
When things radically change, some people's reaction is to desperately want things to be back to normal, even to the point of deluding themselves into thinking things *are* (or can be). "I just want my normal back". These people normally crash.
When you go through a little disruption, you go "I just want my normal back, even if it's not as good". When you go through a major catastrophic ordeal, you go "I didn't go through all of that to settle for shit". I know this intimately.
People should stop talking about shit they never experienced, or talking about this as if nobody has ever experienced it before. Ask refugees, ask political dissidents dodging death threats, ask people who lost their normal time after time only to survive and bounce back.
