Hold my beer. This terrible example shows how serious the US corona situation really is! As the local newspaper Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports, health officials in Starr County,

(Texas) made a relentless decision to choose the district's only hospital. According to the report, the hospital, which is hopelessly overcrowded with Covid 19 patients, should now differentiate between patients who still have hope of being cured -

and those who are no longer curable. The scarce medical resources should therefore only be used for patients who have a good chance of survival. Everyone else should be send home from hospital more or less to die!

Health chief Jose Vasquez said a committee would decide which patients should be sent home to their families. Vasquez said: “We are in a desperate situation. As things are going, we cannot continue as usual in the Starr County Memorial Hospital or in the district.

The numbers are staggering. ”Starr County had long bristled itself with negligible corona numbers: at the start of the pandemic, there was said to be no infection for three weeks. But after Texas governor Greg Abbott reopened his state, the numbers skyrocketed in Starr County.

Jose Vasquez's sad conclusion: "All the patients who are most likely to have no hope should be cared for in the company of their family and the love of their home, rather than dying alone in a hospital room thousands of miles away."

Starr County has a population of approximately 61,000 people. As of Friday, there were more than 1,700 corona cases and 17 deaths. Based on 100,000 people, there were 92 infections last week - the eleventh highest rate in Texas.

Intensive care capacities at the Starr County Memorial Hospital have increased from eight to 17 and then to 29 beds - and yet it is no longer enough to treat all patients adequately.
