1. Brief THREAD on #TrumpTownHall

I’m so grieved tonight. Our #POTUS #Trump engaged in extraordinary levels of gaslighting, disinformation, outright lying. It’s too much for me to list all of it. He did a profound disservice to himself, his campaign, and the American people. ->

It gives me no joy to say this. We all *need* our President to be an honest, competent, clear-minded leader. But he hurt himself tonight in all of those regards. He made statements that were dangerous regarding #COVID, #QAnon, and peaceful elections. Some of “the base” are ->

3. Complaining that @SavannahGuthrie was too hard on him. NO! Her job is to draw our honest and clear answers from him; she did her best to hold his feet to the fire. His answers directly contradicted known facts or were blatantly disingenuous. Total disrespect for ->

4. The viewers and #SavannahGuthrie. Really, it was just exhausting and I cannot adequately address it. Honest and thoughtful #Republicans know that tonight was a disaster for the President (though many won’t say it). #Scientists and #Doctors are horrified by his dangerous ...->

5. ... Disinformation. National security experts continue to panic over his shambolic understanding and articulation of critical national and international concerns. I feel sick hearing his words. I’m sorry. Wish I could just keep silent, but ... c’mon, man!

6. Character, competency, decency, integrity, and honesty matter. The American people need this in our leaders and it is in short supply right now. There will continue to be bad national consequences for these massive leadership failures. And too many Americans only care ->

7. ... about ideology or agenda or a few policy wins. Let me tell you this: ideology doesn’t matter if character and competency are lacking. If dishonesty and narcissism sabotage your agenda, then your agenda is worthless. Furthermore, the #GOP had better wake up now and deal ->

8. ... with the cancer of #QAnon in their midst or it will eat them alive. Same for some churches. If leaders don’t get out in front of this and denounce it clearly and unequivocally now, they will never get that stink off of them for many years. #Trump had yet another ->

9. ... opportunity tonight to denounce #QAnon and he utterly failed; did so in a weak and disingenuous fashion. Why does he do this to himself? It will not only hurt him in November but many #Republicans down ballot: Senate, House, state races. Will #GOP become the Q Party? ->

10. If I were still a #Republican (now #ExGOP after 37 years of activism), I would be screaming tonight in anguish over what is being done to the Party. Can y’all not see what is happening? If my ultimate hope was in #Trump, I would be in despair. But, my faith is in God.

PS. I didn’t want to say any of this. It will anger some people I love. I’m grieved about that too. All I can say is that I have done my best, before God, to speak truth in love. I have delivered what was on my heart. All will give an account to God for where we stood now. Peace.
