👏🏼GREAT NEWS! A new type of test detects T-cell response to the #coronavirus, which may be a better indicator of immunity and clinical outcome than antibodies.

Antibodies can wane, but people may remain IMMUNE to the virus due to T cells.

@apoorva_nyc
nytimes.com/2020/11/10/hea…
Researchers analyzed samples from 2,200 people in Vo #Italy, which tested all 2,900 residents for the #coronavirus in March when cases were soaring. The T-Detect test correctly identified 97% who had a confirmed diagnosis vs. only 77% from a commercial antibody test.💉

#COVID19
T cells specific to a virus can be difficult & expensive to detect via traditional methods. Adaptive Technologies cleverly designed a test to detect T-cell receptors that recognize the #coronavirus – all made possible by the advent of fast and inexpensive sequencing technologies.
~5% of severely ill #COVID19 patients have a “tremendous drop” in T-cell responses, whereas for most, T-cell responses peak at Day 10 and persist for many months: “We’re seeing an earlier, a more robust & even a more durable T-cell response as opposed to the antibody response.”
NOTE: These data have not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal.

The test, if authorized by FDA, would be the first commercial product to detect T-cell responses to the #coronavirus and could be a valuable tool to track immunity.👩🏼‍🔬🦠

🚨BREAKING: @US_FDA grants emergency use authorization for Eli Lilly monoclonal antibody (mAb) drug—bamlanivimab—to treat mild to moderate #coronavirus infections in adults and children.

The drug is similar to Regeneron’s mAb cocktail, but has only 1 mAb.
cnn.com/2020/11/09/hea…
FDA authorization was based on a study of 452 patients with mild to moderate #COVID19 that found that the mAb treatment decreased viral load, lowered the risk of hospitalization and eased some symptoms.

@NEJM
nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…
In this study of 452 patients with mild-moderate #COVID19, only 1.6% given the mAb treatment had symptoms progress such that they needed to be hospitalized or seek care in the emergency department. For patients who got the placebo, the rate of hospitalization was 6.3%.

🚨BREAKING: Great news! @Pfizer says an early analysis of its #coronavirus vaccine trial by independent experts found the vaccine to be >90% effective in preventing #COVID19 in previously uninfected healthy people. No serious safety concerns were observed.
bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
Pfizer plans to ask the @US_FDA for emergency authorization of its 2-dose #coronavirus vaccine later this month, after it has collected the recommended 2 months of safety data. By the end of the year it will have manufactured enough doses to immunize 15 to 20 million people.🦠💉
The vaccine relies on messenger RNA (mRNA) technology never before used in an approved vaccine. The #mRNA is genetic material that encodes a #coronavirus protein, turning the body’s cells into #vaccine factories, allowing it to be developed much faster than a traditional vaccine.

⚠️WORRISOME. In addition to the deaths from the #coronavirus, there are known long-term effects of #COVID19 in survivors.

New study says survivors may have significant decline in brain function—the worst cases equivalent to the brain ageing by 10 years.🧠
reuters.com/article/health…
This UK study of 84,285 people found cognitive deficits “of substantial effect size,” particularly in people hospitalized with #COVID19—the worst cases showed impacts “equivalent to the average 10-year decline in global performance between the ages of 20 to 70”.🧠🦠
IMPORTANT: The cognitive function of the participants was not known pre-#COVID, so they couldn’t compare before and after scores (best way to show change within a person). And the study included a large number of people who self-reported having had #COVID19—but no positive test.

🚨BREAKING: over recent days, #Russia🇷🇺has hacked into state and local computer networks in US voting infrastructure.

US intel agencies say Russia plans to interfere in the election in its final days or immediately after the election to *help Trump*.🤬
nytimes.com/2020/10/22/us/…
US intel says there is “no evidence that the Russians have changed any vote tallies or voter registration information.” US officials expect that if the race is not called on election night, Russians sow chaos and doubts about the integrity of the results.🤬

#TrumpRussia
‼️The Russian hackers got inside some election administrators’ systems and had access to voting information. What alarmed officials was the targets, the timing—the attacks began 2 months ago—and the adversary.

🚨BREAKING: Trump’s #TaxReturns show that Trump has a previously unknown bank account in #China.

Trump’s Chinese account is controlled by Trump International Hotels Management LLC that paid $188,561 in taxes TO CHINA, while Trump paid ZERO in the US.🤬
nytimes.com/2020/10/20/us/…
Trump falsely smears @JoeBiden about China (PROJECTION!), but Biden’s public financial disclosures & tax returns show ZERO income or business dealings in #China. Meanwhile, Trump’s #TaxReturns have ample evidence of Trump’s efforts to do business with #China.

#TrumpChina
As with #Russia🇷🇺, where Trump explored hotel and tower projects in Moscow, Trump has long sought a licensing deal in #China, as far back as 2006, when he filed trademark applications in Hong Kong & the mainland. Many Chinese government approvals came after he became president.🧐

🚨@CDCgov says the #coronavirus pandemic left ~285,000 more people DEAD in 2020 than a typical year.

The excess death toll in 25- to 44-year-olds is up 26.5%, the *largest change for any age group*.😱

Ignore Trump's lies. YOUNG PEOPLE ARE *NOT* IMMUNE.
washingtonpost.com/health/coronav…
2 main causes for excess deaths:
▶️Most likely are from #COVID19 but weren't recorded on death certificates (lack of testing)
▶️Others likely are at home/nursing homes from heart attacks, diabetes, strokes and Alzheimer’s disease of people afraid to seek care or unable to get it.
CDC found “that excess deaths have occurred every week since March 2020,” with a peak during the week of April 11 and another around Aug. 8, coinciding with the #coronavirus surge in NY early on and a 2nd peak when many states reopened too soon.🤬
