I'm understandably still receiving Qs from concerned & worried people about the clotting events observed in #AstraZeneca #CovidVaccine (& J&J recently in the US).
So here's a 🧵 of resources from some people I respect & trust to speak on the topic ⤵️ #COVIDー19 #scicomm #science
Dr. @MPaiMD shared an important thread as a blot clot doctor on the #astrazenecavaccine clotting events and the risk/benefit of taking #CovidVaccine vs. Dying from #COVID19:
.@MPaiMD & @SabiVM wrote a very well scientifically balanced piece covering the risks involved (very rare although serious) w/ the clotting events. Every single thing we do & every medicine/treatment we take involves risk. BUT context is impt. #scicomm
thestar.com/amp/opinion/co…
.@heysciencesam covers a lot of the info & nuance around the #ASTRAZENECA #CovidVaccine clotting events, including how &why our regulatory & drug surveillance bodies made their decisions. She also covers the risk (which is low) & why it's impt. to 💉
.@kakape has been covering all aspects of #COVID19. This is a good short thread on the gender split that's been observed for the #CovidVaccines clotting events:
.@AntibioticDoc has another great thread on the risks/benefits of the #CovidVaccines and how although serious, the risks of the clots are low but the risks of dying from #COVID19 are higher.
Myself & colleagues @miramaximos @thekimgauthier & @TheAmirImani created a blog post @SpectrumMD covering a timeline of the directives from global health bodies, what each of the clotting events mean & current guidance: #scicomm #COVID19Vaccine #MedTwitter
Most importantly the pauses in #CovidVaccine use indicates that our drug surveillance systems work to spot rare events to be investigated & clinicians will know how to diagnose & treat. AND so that you know what symptoms to look for & what actions to take.
I'll continue to add more resources as they come along.
But please remember, that most of the clinicians, public health experts, scientists & health, regulatory & surveillance bodies are here to protect us not harm us. Once you can, please get your #COVID19Vaccine.
Colleague & friend @miramaximos also has an excellent thread where she is capturing resources on the topic, here:
Everyone should watch this brilliant piece by @brittlestar. Not minimizing the very rare but serious clotting events, but to put into context & highlight the MANY risks & unknowns in our everyday lives vs. #COVID19Vaccine. #COVIDー19 #scicomm #AstraZeneca
This is a good read that includes:
Potential mechanism behind clotting events & Potential risks (very low)

I'm in meetings for most of the day & resurfaced to even more stupid decisions? #onpoli
What is this crap re: blaming people for complacency, hard hit communities for not knowing to book vaccine appts in this convoluted mess & MORE police presence? THIS AIN'T IT! #COVID19ON
We all feel the same. STUPID DECISION MAKING.
MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS. LIKE THE ONES THE EXPERTS HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT FOR EONS...YOU KNOW... LIKE #PaidSickDays and STOP FINGER POINTING FOR POOR #COVID19Vaccine logistics and GIVE essential workers Vaccines!
